What words do you start with to describe the Kickshiker Band? Talented, for sure would be in the top five. Funny, entertaining, unusual, the real deal, ok , that’s not really a word, but you get the message. The Amarillo-based duo brings the best of true country music to the table.
The duo consists of Butch and Pat Rich, a husband a wife team that is possibly one of the best bands in the Texas Panhandle. With Butch on guitar and Pat on keyboards, it’s hard to imagine how two people could be this entertaining and talented.
From “Working Man Blues”, to “Nightlife”, Butch really has the simple truth of great country music. When Pat sings “It’s Your World Now”, one of the crowds most requested songs, you realize what truly amazing gift she has.
When you combine the two together you get a knocked out, in-your-face, truly unique country sound. But to label them as just a country act would truly be an injustice. They range from Pat singing Bob Seger, to Butch doing Louie Armstrong. It’s truly an amazing range of genres.
If you’re looking for a truly great dance band, then you’ve found it in the Kickshiker Band. The Kickshiker Band doesn’t just sing, they are two of the best entertainers in the area. “I had a great teacher”, says Butch. “The Fabulous Roy Clark was my mentor and I owe him a huge amount of gratitude for what he taught me.” He would say to me, “Butch, it isn’t always about you. You’ve got to involve the people into your show!” Butch adds, “He was absolutely right!”
“We appreciate our audience so much”, replied Pat. “They aren’t just our fans, they’ve become family to us!” “We love to play and entertain, and we want them to have a good time and enjoy that too!”
The Kickshiker Band has recently been enjoying some play on satellite radio. “The Bill Mack Show had several requests to hear the Kickshiker Band, so I sent him an email. He called us back personally and wanted to get our CD so he could listen to it and within a few days, we were hearing our music on satellite radio, which reaches coast to coast! Talk about a thrill, “ says Pat. “We gave him a call and he interviewed us at length live on the show for about 15 minutes a couple of weeks ago, which was a blast.” replied Butch. Bill Mack has been playing their music every week since that phone call.
The Bill Mack Show on Willie’s Place, is on every weekday from 11:00 a.m -2:00 p.m. on Sirius station 64 and XM radio station 13.
The Kickshiker Band is playing every Thursday night at 7:00 at the VFW, 1401 W. 8th Ave. in Amarillo. The public is welcome. You don’t need to be a member to come to the dances.
